Jane Fonda explains awkward Megyn Kelly moment

Jane Fonda thinks Megyn Kelly needs to work on her timing.

While appearing on Kelly’s new NBC show Wednesday, Fonda snapped back at the host for asking about her plastic surgery. “We really want to talk about that now?” Fonda lamented.

When pressed on the subject, a visibly irritated Fonda replied, “Good attitude, good posture, I take care of myself. But let me tell you why I love this movie that we did, ‘Our Souls at Night,’ rather than plastic surgery.”

Later Wednesday, the 79-year-old Oscar winner expounded on the exchange, which went down on-air in front of her co-star Robert Redford.

“[I was] a little bit [shocked at the question],” Fonda told “Entertainment Tonight Canada.” “Given the fact that we don’t have a lot of time and Bob is right here, it’s a weird thing to bring up — whether I’ve had plastic surgery or not. I have and I’ve talked about it. Seemed like the wrong time and place to ask that question.”

Redford, 80, added of Kelly’s question: “It didn’t involve me. Of course, I haven’t had [plastic surgery]. I think Jane didn’t want to go there. I think she didn’t want to have the show turn into about her, her surgery or her look. It was about the quality of the performance. I wasn’t paying a lot of attention.”

Fonda wasn’t the only star unimpressed at her experience on the inaugural week of “Megyn Kelly Today,” which airs during the 9 a.m. hour of the “Today” show.

Debra Messing said she “regretted going on” the program because of Kelly’s controversial comments during an interview with the “Will & Grace” cast — much to the chagrin of NBC brass.

Earlier this week, Page Six revealed that TV insiders were baffled by Kelly’s show in general, with one source telling us, “They spent all that money on this great political anchor and journalist. If you take those things away, what are you paying for?”
