Carolina Herrera hailed by fashionistas at final show

Carolina Herrera — who is stepping down as head designer at her fashion house after 37 years — took her final bow on Monday.

The fashion legend, 79, was surrounded by her garment workers at her New York Fashion Week show at MoMA with a front row that included Anna Wintour, Calvin Klein, Katie Holmes, Seth Meyers and Karlie Kloss.

“She has given me so many hours of joy,” Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Glenda Bailey told us.

W magazine’s Stefano Tonchi said, “She’s an act of class. It’s kind of maybe a sign of the times that there is so little class left and she is leaving the scene.”

Former “Fashion: Backstage Pass” host Alina Cho chimed in: “Not only is she the chicest and most elegant woman in the world, she is also among the loveliest.”

Raconteur Fran Lebowitz cracked, “People have forgotten about these things: talent, flair, style. Sometimes people succeed because they are very good. Not everyone is Donald Trump.”

Herrera will take on the role of global brand ambassador, while Wes Gordon steps in as creative director.
