New Bowie statue vandalized with ‘feed the homeless first’

Just two days after a David Bowie statue was unveiled in Aylesbury, England, it has been vandalized with spray paint.

Social media photos of the monument show the phrases “RIP DB” and “Feed the Homeless First” scrawled in green across the brick wall behind it and on the sidewalk in front.

The bronze statue was unveiled on Sunday in the town where the late Bowie first introduced the world to Ziggy Stardust. It is titled “Earthly Messenger.”

According to Billboard, Marillion lead singer Steve Hogarth, who unveiled the statue, was saddened to hear the news.

“It’s with a heavy heart and despair I hear that within 48 hours someone has defaced Andrew Sinclair’s breathtaking David Bowie double statue,” he said in a statement. “Such a shame. Hopefully it can be cleaned up… [and] hopefully this fabulous work of art will give people a reason to come to Aylesbury for many years to come.”

The vandal hasn’t been caught.
