Issa Rae is all over the map these days.
Despite her success and numerous red-carpet appearances, the actress, 33, doesn’t think of herself as famous.
“My life hasn’t changed that much,” she quipped to The Hollywood Reporter. “If anything, I say it feels like I’m popular in high school where it’s like, ‘Oh, I know you.’”
Rae, who grew up in California, hosted the prestigious CFDA Fashion Awards this week, works as a spokesmodel for Covergirl and is currently shooting Season 3 of her hit HBO show “Insecure.”
Her schedule constantly has her in the spotlight.
“But I don’t consider myself famous by any means,” she said. “I’m not Rihanna or Beyoncé, you know? I can walk into a grocery store just fine.”
Her response is a bit different from what shared with the Associated Press in May 2017.
At the time, Rae said people were beginning to recognize her to point of disrupting her normal routine.
“The true test for me was Inglewood. I live in Inglewood, and I walk in Inglewood all the time,” she described. “I do a morning walk, and nobody recognized me. Then just a couple weeks ago I did my routine walk and I had three cars turn around and stop … One almost tried to follow me home. So I was like, ‘Oh, I can’t do this anymore in my own neighborhood.’”
