Life is coming full circle for Kyle Richards as her youngest daughter wants to start acting.
“Portia is the only one who wants to act and it’s very weird for me to take her to auditions,” the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, 49, told the crowd at the 92nd Street Y on Tuesday night. “It takes me back in time, all [of] the sudden, I’m my mom and she’s me.”
And even though Richards, whose credits include “Escape to Witch Mountain” and “Little House on the Prairie,” has now worked in every aspect of show business since producing the new series, “American Women,” she admits she’s a nervous wreck when her 10-year-old auditions for a gig.
“I’ll take her to auditions and I’m sitting with all these moms and it’s really awkward too because [they’ll recognize me from] ‘Housewives,’ so I’m like, ‘hello,’ I get so nervous … I’m embarrassed at how I act,” she said. “I’ll be like ‘How did you do?’ and Portia’s like ‘I’ll tell you in the car’ then I’m like, ‘Did they laugh?’ and she’s like, ‘Mom, I will tell you in the car.'”
And, luckily Portia, who has become known for adorable moments captured by Bravo cameras over the past 8 years, doesn’t seem to be fazed by the pressures of Hollywood.
“She just has such a good attitude about it and she’s very good at it, she’s screen tested [and] she gets callbacks all the time but she hasn’t booked it yet so now I start getting like, ‘is she going to start [getting] sad or nervous?’ But she just goes and doesn’t even ask about it again so I think she thinks this is the job.”
Richards’ show, which is inspired by her unconventional childhood in the 1970s, has been a point of contention between her sisters, Kim Richards and Kathy Hilton during the show’s production, but fortunately Kyle says her family, as well as her ‘RHOBH’ castmates, have been supportive — despite some technical difficulties.
“I sent Kim a DVD and she was like ‘I have to have someone come and hook up the DVD player,'” she said.
