U2 abruptly ends Berlin show after Bono loses his voice

Bono still hadn’t found what he was looking for.

The U2 singer abruptly canceled a concert mid-show in Germany on Saturday night, after admitting he’d lost his voice.

“I think we can’t go on, it’s not right for you,” Bono, 58, rasped in a hoarse voice to the crowd in Berlin Saturday night after only playing five songs, video of the concert posted on social media shows.

Bono then suggested that the band take a 10-minute break, but the concert was ultimately canceled.

The Irish rockers apologized to their fans in a statement, saying they didn’t know why Bono, whose real name is Paul Hewson, suffered a “complete loss of voice.”

“We don’t know what has happened and we’re taking medical advice. As always, we appreciate our audience’s understanding and all our fans’ support in Berlin and those who travelled from afar. We will update you very soon,” the statement said.

Actor Ashley Judd was at the concert and shared a clip of Bono belting right before his voice cut out.

“The power of #bono voice before it surprised him in #Berlin and left him abruptly … he was singing his guts out (per usual),” she wrote, adding that “the crowd so felt for him” and that he was “obviously powerless and vulnerable.”

“He’s real and he’s human, too, like we all are,” she wrote.

The band’s next show – part of the European leg of their Innocence + Experience Tour – is scheduled for Sept. 4.
