Selena Gomez on social media break after message to Jennifer Lopez

Selena Gomez is taking yet another break from social media after sharing a strange message she sent to Jennifer Lopez.

After seeing Lopez in concert on Saturday night, Gomez, 26, gushed in an Instagram message to the singer, “I wanted to tell you how much you inspired me tonight!!! I haven’t felt that free in my entire life … I just want to tell you how amazing God thinks you are. He was speaking to me through your show tonight!! Like made me feel like such a woman!!”

Gomez then shared a screenshot of the message on her own Instagram stories, tagging Lopez, 49, once more.

Lopez didn’t publicly respond to Gomez, but shared several photos of herself backstage with other stars in attendance, including Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Dua Lipa, Becky G and boyfriend Alex Rodriguez.

On Monday, Gomez revealed she was taking a breather from social media.

“Taking a social media break. Again,” she captioned a photo of herself smiling in the mirror on Instagram. “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”

It’s unclear what negative comments she was referring to, but the former Disney star seems to be going through a bit of a tough time.

On Saturday, she filmed an Instagram live video declaring that she never wants to be on a magazine cover ever again and spoke about her work with A21, an organization that prevents human trafficking, which she also spoke about previously in Elle magazine’s October cover story.

She took exception to the interview at the time, writing on Instagram afterward, “As I’m aware there will always be interests in one’s personal life because that’s the pace of our ‘social’ generation … Church is a name for something far more personal. There’s always agenda seeking information on such a subject and I understand why. Rarely do I mention church (and I didn’t) but I’ll always feel comfortable talking about my values and beliefs … I’m a bit bummed but rarely surprised.”

The article only mentioned Gomez’s religion and involvement with the Hillsong Church, of which her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber and his new fiancée Hailey Baldwin are members, in passing.

Last March, Gomez, devoid of irony, said in a Vogue cover story that she “can’t wait for people to forget about” her.

In February 2018, the “Wolves” singer completed a two-week rehab stint for depression and anxiety, marking her third time in treatment for her issues, after which sources told Page Six she was avoiding alcohol.

However, in her Elle interview, she said, “As far as my personal life, someone sees me having a glass of wine? I could give two s–ts. I’m not trying to hide. That’s my life.”

Gomez first sought treatment at Arizona’s Dawn of the Meadows facility in early 2014; in August 2016 she checked into a Tennessee facility to focus on her mental health.

She revealed in September 2017 that she’d undergone a life-saving kidney transplant that spring due to complications from her ongoing battle with lupus.
