David Alan Grier reflects on old age and ‘In Living Color’ reboot

David Alan Grier stars in the new comedy series “The Cool Kids,” about four friends that live in a retirement home.

He told Page Six about the reality of getting older: “My research was watching my parents and, yes, old people are still f–king. It is just in a coded language.”

Recalling his seminal ’90s comedy show, “In Living Color,” Grier said the original cast was ready for a reunion, including famous former Fly Girl Jennifer Lopez.

“They tried to revive ‘In Living Color’ around 2011 or 2012,” he said. “Jim Carrey was down. Everyone was down, including J.Lo. We all talked about it, and it was going into fruition. Lil Rel Howery was going to be a part of the new cast. Keenen [Ivory Wayans] wanted to combine the old cast, but the network felt that we would overshadow the new cast. And then they wanted to own everything we were writing — but this is not 1990 anymore. They did not want to pay us, but most of us were like, ‘F–k it, we will do it for fun.’ ”

But, “at the end of the day, they just killed it … I flew out to do sketches, and by the time I got off the plane, it was already dead.”

He said of his latest project, “After watching this show, you are going to want to be old.”
