NeNe Leakes reveals husband Gregg has stage 3 colon cancer

NeNe Leakes confirmed on Sunday’s season premiere of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” that husband Gregg has stage 3 colon cancer.

The couple, who went public with his health troubles in June, recounted the fateful moments leading up to the grim news.

“It was Cinco de Mayo,” the Bravo personality recalled. “Gregg was in excruciating pain. Like, I’ve never seen him say, ‘I’m hurting so bad, the pain is so bad in my stomach.’ And finally he said to me, ‘Take me to the hospital.'”

Gregg, 63, received the diagnosis upon his arrival at the hospital.

“We just weren’t prepared to hear that,” NeNe, 50, shared.

Gregg ultimately looked to a higher power as the uncertainty of the future crept in.

“I guess the scariest part about all of this is when we got to the hospital and the doctor saying that, ‘We need to do surgery on you tonight or you ain’t going to make it,'” Gregg explained.

“I went over and prayed to God and I told him, ‘If it’s time, let’s go,’ “‘I don’t fear death, I don’t want to go. If my work is finished here, take care of them, let’s go,'” he continued.

Speaking with a prayer group beside NeNe during Sunday’s episode, Gregg also shared he had penned a letter to his other half in case he didn’t survive.

“Writing that note was the hardest thing I ever did in my life. But, you never know what’s in you until you’re at that door. I never thought I had it in me — to fight cancer. Now, I’m going to beat cancer’s ass,” he said.

NeNe previously opened up about Gregg’s cancer battle, saying the ordeal has left him feeling “isolated.”

“I’ve felt lost and alone not to mention the roller coaster of feelings my hubby Gregg has had,” she shared on Instagram. “He’s definitely felt isolated from the rest of the world, mad, sad, depressed and left with asking why me!”

She also noted the difficult situation has changed her marriage “tremendously.”
