A new theater opened on the Upper East Side with three splashy Cinema Society screenings of movies from different eras.
Spike Lee hosted a screening of “BlacKkKlansman,” while Brooke Shields showed her star-making 1978 film, “Pretty Baby,” by Louis Malle, on its 40th anniversary.
Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter Kiera Chaplin showed off the classic “City Lights.”
Shields said it was the first time she saw the controversial film, about a child sex worker, since it premiered at Cannes.
“I have a 12-year-old myself,” she said. “I turned 12 while filming this movie. I had my 12th birthday on the set . . . The film changed the entire course of my life and I’m so incredibly proud of it.”
Others at the starry CMX CinéBistro opening included Katie Couric, Cuba Gooding Jr., Paul Sorvino, Jay McInerney, Anne Hearst, Lizzie Tisch and Rosanna Scotto.
The six-screen theater was the site of the Clearview Cinemas, which closed in 2013 after 22 years.
The new iteration offers reserved seating, reclining seats and a full menu.
