Keith Richards finally ‘pulled the plug’ on his drinking

Keith Richards has finally put down the bottle.

The rock legend, known for his wild lifestyle, has quit drinking.

“It’s been about a year now,” the guitarist told Rolling Stone about his decision. “I pulled the plug on it. I got fed up with it.”

Richards, who turns 75 next week, confessed that he sometimes still indulges in a “glass of wine occasionally, and a beer.”

“It was time to quit,” he added. “Just like all the other stuff.”

Operating without booze has been an adjustment of sorts. “But I don’t notice any difference really — except for I don’t drink,” he said. “I wasn’t feeling [right]. I’ve done it. I didn’t want that anymore.”

Richards’ appetite for illicit substances is nearly as legendary as he is. His career has been filled with drugs, alcohol and women. But he turned over a new leaf in 1991 when he settled down with wife Patti Hansen and moved the family to Connecticut.

“Drugs are not interesting these days,” Richards told The Independent earlier this year. “They are very institutionalized and bland. And anyway, I’ve done ’em all.”

Richards, who still smokes cigarettes, will need his health in the new year. The Rolling Stones will head on a 13-date US stadium tour beginning April 20.
