Celebrity fitness expert Shaun T on what being fit is really about

Celebrity fitness guru Shaun T has some important advice for those hoping for a healthier 2019.

“A lot of times people’s New Year’s resolutions are attainable, but not attainable on the time frame they want the change to happen,” the father of two told Page Six. “And I believe people put a lot of pressure on themselves.”

Shaun, 40, advises focusing on the step-by-step process to get achieve your goals.

“There are no tricks, because I believe that if you’re trying to create magic then it’s going to be an illusion,” said the creator of the “Insanity” workout. “My tips are to create your own calculation. Most people, when they start a workout program, they are going on someone else’s journey.”

He adds that having the mental preparation for the journey is just as important as preparing the diet and routine.

“The reason why we start and the reason why we quit is because our mind tells us so,” Shaun explained. “Our body is never like, ‘I want to do 18,000 push-ups. I want to do 50,000 squats.’ Your body doesn’t really tell you that. But your mind has to process what it is you need and want.”

Shaun says to develop non-negotiable mental health things you need to push forward. On the flip side, he says set the negotiable things that “enhance, maybe give you some confidence, make you feel really good in certain areas of your life.”

“Being really fit is about you being mentally strong,” he said. “You will never obtain the perfect body because your body is always changing. But you can always be better every single day and find sustainability if you stick to the program that you create for yourself.”
