Conan O’Brien prides himself on his Irish heritage, but when he took a DNA test he found out some shocking information.
The late-night TV host appeared on Sunday’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and revealed that he underwent a physical recently and opted for a DNA test.
“Two weeks later [the doctor] called me up,” O’Brien, 55, explained. “He said, ‘I have never, ever, ever had a DNA test like this before and I’ve been doing this for 10 years.’”
As it turned out, O’Brien is a 100% Irish — which is very rare.
O’Brien says the doctor explained that no one, generally speaking, is 100% any one background.
He even researched the genetic makeup of people living in Ireland, only to learn most people are not completely Irish. “You will find out that the most Irish looking people are like 86% Irish, 94% Irish,” he quipped. “The Lucky Charms leprechaun, true fact, 11% Spanish.”
O’Brien’s doctor then explained what it all means, simply saying, “‘It means you’re inbred.’”
