Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ makeover is a work of art

In Netflix’s satirical slasher flick “Velvet Buzzsaw,” Jake Gyllenhaal plays a snooty art critic tormented by haunted paintings — and while making the press rounds to promote his new project, the actor sure dressed the part.

At the film’s January premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Gyllenhaal, 38, sported an open-knit Acne Studios sweater ($420) that somewhat resembled painted stripes melting down a canvas. He continued his artsy streak at the movie’s LA premiere in a yellow asymmetric tie-dye shirt from Loewe ($1,650).

But nothing could compare to the optical-illusion print Dries Van Noten suit the star chose for the opening night of “Sea Wall / A Life” at the Public Theater in NYC on Thursday. Covered in rust-colored swirls, Gyllenhaal’s outfit was, as his character Morf Vanderwalt would say, “mesmeric” — so it’s little surprise that a similar two-piece from the brand would set you back nearly $3,000.

A small price to pay, perhaps, to make waves in the art world.
