Peter Thomas of ‘RHOA’ opens up about arrest for bad checks

Peter Thomas is out of jail and telling his side of the story less than a week after he was arrested in Miami for allegedly writing fraudulent checks.

“Clearing the rumors,” Thomas, 58, captioned an Instagram video, in which he addressed his time behind bars.

In the more than seven-minute long clip, the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star said he was released from Miami-Dade County jail Wednesday night after being taken into custody on March 1.

Thomas said his arrest involved an incident in which he wrote a check for $4,000 to a talent agency to book a performer for his bar, but his “checking account was compromised” at the time.

“The bank shut it down,” he said. “That means somebody got my debit card number and was using it everywhere.”

Thomas maintained that he never knew there was a warrant out for his arrest.

“Six days I spent in jail,” he said. “[The] ‘celebrity status’ I had made them put me around no one for six days. I don’t wish that on anyone, but I had a lot of time to think, and I had a lot of time to take medication because I’m claustrophobic.”

On Wednesday, Thomas’s attorney, Keith Doley, told E! News, “It was an unfortunate misunderstanding. There was no intent on Mr. Thomas part to not pay. There was a misunderstanding about a performance that didn’t happen. It’s all been resolved.”

St. John the Baptist Parish’s District Attorney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Thomas is known for appearing on “Real Housewives” with his ex-wife, Cynthia Bailey. The Bravo series documented some of his struggles running his nightlife businesses, including Bar One in Atlanta and Club One in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to local news outlet WPLG, Thomas was in Miami Beach for the opening of a new nightclub.
