“Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman appeared in Los Angeles federal court Tuesday on charges relating to a widespread college admissions bribery scheme.
A judge ruled that the Emmy-winning actress could be released on $250,000 bond. She did not have to enter a plea.
Huffman is accused of scheming with crooked college counselor William “Rick” Singer to illegally boost her daughter’s SAT scores and secure her admission to college.
Court documents say Huffman paid $15,000 disguised as a charitable donation so her daughter could take part in the cheating scam.
She’s expected to appear in Boston court next March 29 for a preliminary hearing.
Her husband, “Shameless” actor William H. Macy, was also at the courthouse in Downtown LA and remained tight-lipped about the charges.
“You know I can’t talk about that,” he told reporters.
Though Macy was not named in the indictment, court papers say he was caught on tape with Huffman speaking on the phone to Singer, the alleged mastermind of the $25 million scam.
Huffman and fellow TV star Lori Loughlin were among 33 wealthy parents charged in the scheme.
Loughlin is expected to appear in court Wednesday while her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, was released on $1 million bond Tuesday.
