William H. Macy recently discussed ‘stressful’ college application process

A two-month-old interview with Felicity Huffman’s husband, William H. Macy, talking about the “stressful” process of college applications resurfaced Tuesday following Huffman’s alleged involvement in a massive college admissions cheating scandal.

“My daughters are extraordinary women,” Macy, 68, told Parade magazine. “They’re really a joy. They’re both thriving. They’ve got a life ahead of them, but you can exhale a little bit. They’re 16 and 18 years old, and they’re good people. My daughter Sofia, the oldest, is going to LAHSA [Los Angeles High School of the Arts]. She’s thriving there. I know she’s going to make a go of it in the business, which I support. I’ve seen her; she’s good, she’s really good.”

The interviewer then asked if his older daughter would go to college.

“She’s going to go to college,” he said. “We’re right now in the thick of college application time, which is so stressful. I am voting that once she gets accepted, she maybe takes a year off. God doesn’t let you be 18 twice.”

He added, “My daughter Georgia, she’s interested in politics, political science and pursuing that. She’s in a very academic school and killing it.”

Huffman, 56, and Macy began dating in the early ’80s after meeting at New York City’s Atlantic Theater Company. The pair dated on and off for 15 years before they finally tied the knot in 1997.

“I was so scared of marriage that I thought I would’ve preferred to step in front of a bus,” she told the Tribune Live in a 2015 interview. “I thought I’d disappear. Men’s stock when they get married goes up. Women’s stock goes down.”

She added, “I was finally smart enough to go: ‘I’m going to marry this guy or really lose him for good.’”

Huffman, famous for her roles in “Desperate Housewives” and “American Crime,” and Macy, who’s known for “Shameless” and “Fargo,” said their “I do’s” on Sept. 6, 1997.

The pair have two kids together, daughters Sofia Grace Macy, 18, and Georgia Grace Macy, 16.

According to court documents, Huffman and Macy allegedly made a “purported charitable contribution” of $15,000 to Key Worldwide Foundation, a charity accused of being a front for the cheating scandal, allegedly run by William Singer, to bribe Sofia’s way into school. The actress allegedly had plans to do the same for her younger daughter but then backed out.

Sofia was allegedly given twice the amount of time to take the SATs and the proctor of the exam allegedly corrected her answers after the test. She received a score of 1420 on her SAT.

In December 2017, Huffman posted multiple times on social media about scouting colleges with her daughter.

“Visiting colleges with our 17 year old. Makes me nostalgic… WHILE IT’S HAPPENING!” she tweeted alongside a young picture of herself and Macy.

“Another college visit. Like the standards these young people are keeping,” she wrote from Chapman University with a picture of a sign that reads, “What would Michael Scott do.”

In May 2018, Macy said of his teen daughters, “I want them to be happy and lusty and safe. I want them to have a lot of sex in their lifetime! Good, healthy wonderful sex with no guilt. That’s what I really want.”

Huffman, who was reportedly taken into custody on Tuesday, faces charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.
