Christie Brinkley marks 25 years since near-fatal helicopter crash

Christie Brinkley is reflecting with gratitude on the tragic accident that nearly took her life 25 years ago.

On Instagram Monday, the 65-year-old supermodel shared the People magazine cover story about the helicopter accident that published on April 18, 1994.

“Not a day goes by that I have not counted my blessing for being alive,” she wrote in the caption. “I know for a fact that tomorrow is not a guarantee and that each day is a gift and an opportunity to make sure that everybody we love knows it!”

On the cover, Brinkley was photographed still recovering from the accident, wearing a bandaged splint on her wrist. She was quoted in the story as thinking to herself during the incident, “Oh, my God! We’re crashing! I’m going to die.”

According to an Associated Press article that published at the time of the accident, Brinkley and five others were trapped on a mountain in Telluride, Colorado, for about five hours after the helicopter crashed. Brinkley suffered minor injuries.
