“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda dished on how he manages to create groundbreaking pieces of work.
“I take lots of breaks because I find that the best ideas come when I’m on vacation and when I’m not looking for them,” Miranda, 39, told Page Six at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center’s 19th annual Monte Cristo Award ceremony. “The other thing I do is I go see a lot of work and I read a lot of work and I’m inspired by the things that inspire me.”
The three-time Tony winner, who is currently turning his Broadway hit “In the Heights” into a film, also told us Monday night that he finds inspiration in works with flaws.
“I’m inspired by the things that I really don’t like and go, ‘What would I do differently?'” he said, adding, “You know you can get inspiration from even not pleasurable experiences at the theater.”
The Monte Cristo Award, which Miranda received in 2018, was presented this year to playwright and screenwriter John Logan, who is known for his work on “Skyfall,” “The Aviator” and “Gladiator.”
