Twenty-five years later, Kim and Shawn Wayans, along with David Alan Grier reunited to celebrate the success of their beloved sketch comedy show, “In Living Color.”
“It makes me feel very blessed to have been a part of something this iconic,” Kim, 57, told us at the Tribeca Film Festival’s anniversary screening of the show on Saturday.
Airing from 1991 to 1994 on Fox, “In Living Color” spoofed political and cultural issues. The show starred actor Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez as a “Fly Girl” and Jamie Foxx, a TV newbie at the time.
Shawn, 48, who joined his sister on the red carpet ahead of the screening, said that at the time they had no inkling that the show would become a staple in pop culture history.
“We were in the moment and we were creating and just laughing,” he said. “It was the time of our lives really, we weren’t really thinking much ahead of that.”
“We were just kids ourselves, so we weren’t even thinking about big picture,” Kim added. “We just went in day-by-day and just tried to make the world laugh.”
And even though she told us that she’s not into the idea of a reboot, the siblings agreed that there are plenty of comics today — like Dave Chappelle, Tiffany Haddish and of course their niece Chaunté Wayans — that could take the show for a modern-day spin.
“But I don’t know, I’m not a big reboot person. I like the idea of ‘we did it, now move on,'” Kim said.
