Nathan Lane jokes with mom who brought her young son to vulgar play

When Nathan Lane spotted a kid in the audience of his outrageously bawdy play “Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus” this week, he couldn’t help stopping the show to ask the mother his age.

“He’s 5,” she responded, to which Lane exclaimed, “You brought a 5-year-old to this show?” — before turning to the boy to say, “Mommy has a lot of explaining to do.”

That elicited roars from the audience. Later, during a monologue about penises, Lane once again broke character, turning to the mom to ask, “Still think this was a good idea?” before slipping seamlessly back into character, a spy said. “Gary” is up for seven Tonys.
