Tom Hanks uses the Beatles to help Gillian Anderson conquer singing fear

Tom Hanks is facing his fears, one strum at a time.

During an appearance Monday on the “Late Late Show with James Corden” in London, the “Toy Story 4” actor not only conquered his own insecurities by playing the guitar in front of an audience, but helped actress Gillian Anderson triumph by singing in public, something she struggled with during her run in “All About Eve” on the West End earlier this year.

“I said to them, ‘I don’t sing. I can sing it, but I’ll be singing it bad.’ So I sang it bad,” Anderson, 50, told Corden when asked about one of her biggest fears.

Though Anderson’s nerves eventually subsided during her on-stage performances, Hanks, 62, later elaborated on his own fears when prompted to by Corden.

“I didn’t want to accompany my wife on the guitar. I’m a horrible guitar player,” Hanks said of singer wife Rita Wilson.

Despite his worries, Hanks then pulled out a guitar from behind the couch he was sitting on and told Anderson they would get through their issues together.

“You’re going to have to sing,” Hanks told Anderson before breaking into the Beatles’ “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”

Hanks capped off the performance by tossing his guitar pick to a lucky fan.
