‘RHONJ’ star Margaret Josephs honored for work in local community

No drama here!

“Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Margaret Josephs was honored on Wednesday for her work in her local Englewood, NJ, community and received the key to the city from Mayor Michael Wildes.

“I am humbled to have been given this amazing opportunity to raise the flag and celebrate the diversity of Englewood,” Josephs captioned an Instagram photo from the celebrations, telling Page Six on Thursday that it was “a big deal” for her, especially during Pride month.

Josephs, 52, told us that she’s lived in the Tenafly/Englewood community for “twenty-something years” and has “always championed gay relationships, even as a little girl.”

“Englewood is extremely diverse,” she explained. “That’s what is so great about our city … I want to just really be involved in the community and do whatever I can to make it a much better place for everybody.”

“I’ve always been driven to do good things because I was raised by a single mother in the ’70s,” she said. “We were always a little different. My mother always had gay friends and, like I had said in my speech yesterday, I never knew there was a difference between being gay and straight. When I had asked her simply about her friends Art and Joe, I said, ‘Oh how come Art doesn’t have you know — what is their relationship?’ And she said simply, ‘They’re in love.’

“It was very easy as a child to understand people are in love. It doesn’t matter if they’re the same sex, the different sex. And when I grew up and realized everybody wasn’t like that I was like, ‘that is so ridiculous.’ It’s such nonsense that people are persecuted for whomever they choose to love. And I couldn’t understand it because I didn’t grow up that way.”

While only her “RHONJ” co-star Jackie Goldschneider was on hand to celebrate Josephs, there shockingly is no conflict among the ladies. Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice did not attend because they were at their respective daughters Antonia and Gabriella’s eighth-grade graduations. Jennifer Aydin was spending time with her children and their friends at the Ariana Grande concert in New York, and it is unclear where Dolores Catania was.
