When you’re responsible for getting Hollywood’s hottest stars red carpet-ready, mistakes sometimes happen — and boy, can they hurt.
“Probably the first one that freaked me out the most was the first time, a long time ago, I was working with Natalie Portman, and I was so nervous,” celebrity hairstylist Cash Lawless recently told Page Six Style at an event for Conair’s new detangling brush, The Knot Dr.
“She was one of the first big celebrities I had worked with. I was blow-drying her hair, and I was trying to get so close and do such a good job I wound up burning her scalp!”
Luckily, the 38-year-old “Black Swan” star was fine in the end and very understanding about the snafu — although Lawless admitted he hasn’t worked with Portman since.
That hasn’t stopped the 32-year-old hair whiz from racking up an impressive A-list clientele that includes Kendall and Kylie Jenner, whom he said are heavily involved in helping create their hair looks.
“They’re really amazing to work with because they really allow artists to be artists,” Lawless explained. “They really foster the creativity of creating challenging and beautiful looks. I bring the technical side of it, how we’re gonna accomplish what we’re doing, but they’re brilliant. I love both of them.”
When it comes to achieving locks like the Jenners’, the stylist has three main tips: lower the heat on your appliances, avoid putting your hair under tension — especially when wet — and brush gently.
As for the summer hair trend he’s most excited about? “All those big, natural curls, the waves and big ’90s blowouts, it’s all back,” he said.
