Ashley Tisdale honors her dead dog with a new tattoo

Ashley Tisdale is mourning the loss of her dog Maui with some new body art.

The singer, 33, took to Instagram to debut her tattoo in honor of the teacup Maltipoo, who died last week. Tisdale inked Maui’s name on her forearm, while her husband, Christopher French, got a simple paw print added to his left hand. Both were created by celebrity tattoo artist Dragon from NYC-based favorite Bang Bang.

“Now Maui is always with us,” Tisdale captioned her photo.

Tisdale has been distraught over the loss of Maui, whom she owned for at least 10 years. She previously called her the couple’s “fur baby” and her “soulmate,” and said she’s in the “worst pain” she’s ever felt following Maui’s death.

“I wanted more time with her. I wasn’t ready for this and now I’m broken,” Tisdale wrote in an earlier Instagram post sharing the sad news. “I will miss you every single day of my life Maui, I will never forget how much joy and love you brought to me and @cmfrench. I can’t stop crying but hopefully in time that will heal.”

Celebrity friends like Vanessa Hudgens, Lucy Hale, Lea Michele and Sarah Michelle Gellar all expressed condolences for the loss.

The “High School Musical” actress even held an elaborate funeral for Maui, which Haylie Duff and others attended. The event included a pink casket with several photos of the dog, a ceremonial sage burning and a director’s chair with Maui’s name on it. There were also dozens of bouquets of flowers, which Tisdale said were sent by friends and family.
