Ciara says she’s lost 20 pounds since the start of her music career

Ciara’s commitment to fitness has evolved over the span of her career.

Discussing her lifestyle recently with People, the 33-year-old singer opened up about her physical transformation following the release of her debut single, “Goodies,” in 2004.

“When I first started in my career, I weighed 20 pounds more than I weigh now,” Ciara told the outlet. “That was the first time I got introduced to eating five small meals a day to impact my workout.”

The mother of two further explained the benefits for her of consuming smaller portions, noting, “When you’re eating small meals, your body starts to function like a well-oiled machine.”

With a workout plan that typically includes “a combination of plyometrics [jump training], cardiovascular work,” as well as lifting weights, Ciara stressed the importance of staying hydrated.

“It’s amazing how you can work out hard all day, but if you don’t eat right you won’t see the results you want to see and if you don’t drink that water you won’t get the results as fast as you want to get them,” Ciara said, revealing she drinks “a gallon and a half a day.”

With husband Russell Wilson as her biggest cheerleader, Ciara teased things can get spicy when the pair exercises together.

“It’s … what I like to call ‘good love competition,'” Ciara said. “We motivate each other and it’s really fun.”

Ciara married the Seattle Seahawks quarterback in 2016.
