Accused-pedophile singer R. Kelly will continue to defend himself against federal sex crimes charges without the aid of a crisis manager, his defense attorney said Tuesday.
The jailed “I Believe I Can Fly” crooner’s publicist Darrell Johnson stepped down Monday for “personal reasons” lawyer Steve Greenberg announced on Twitter — a mere hours after Johnson told CBS he would not leave his daughter alone with any accused “pedophile,” including his own client.
“I wouldn’t leave my daughter with anyone — I’m going to say it again — that’s accused of being a pedophile,” he told “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King.
Asked Tuesday, if his departure had anything to do with the interview, Johnson insisted “Absolutely not!”
“I resigned because of a personal reason that has nothing to do with the Gayle King interview,” he said. “However, if I had to do it all over again I would have worded it different.”
Johnson added he “100 Percent” believes in the R & B legend.
Kelly, 52, is facing federal charges in both Chicago and Brooklyn for allegedly setting up a nationwide sex ring to entrap predominately under-aged girls.
The crooner was ordered held without bail in his Chicago case and is expected to appear in Brooklyn federal court on August 2 to be arraigned on his racketeering indictment.
If convicted, Kelly faces decades in prison.
