Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath took the stage at Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina over Labor Day weekend, singing his greatest hits from the ’90s along with drummer Dean Butterworth — of the band Good Charlotte.
“For the first time ever, I’m the ugly guy in the project,” McGrath joked.
The singer talked about his leg of the “I Love the 90’s” tour, which has a rotating cast featuring Naughty by Nature, TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, Color Me Badd, Coolio and Vanilla Ice.
“How does Vanilla Ice play an hour?” McGrath mused, explaining it made him come up with his own “’90s experience” tour. But 51-year-old McGrath also poked fun at himself, saying he’s an adult man “who still has highlights in his hair.”
