“Transparent” isn’t done making music just yet.
The Amazon series, fresh off the heels of its musical finale airing Sept. 27, is in the process of making it to Broadway.
“I’m not allowed to say anything but we might be trying to make our way onto the Broadway stage one of these days,” the show’s creator, Jill Soloway, told Page Six on Sunday at the “Transparent” finale viewing at the Tribeca TV Festival.
“When you see the [finale] movie, you kind of can already see like, ‘Wow, there’s a lot of really good songs there.’ A lot of people are like, ‘Straight to Broadway! Straight to Broadway!’ I’m like, ‘Yep!'”
Jill’s sibling, Faith Soloway, also told us, “There’s a lot going on, but I want to be able to write songs for anybody all the time. That makes me the happiest. We’ve just started and there’s a lot of interest. We have a producer. We have a director attached. It’s a dream come true for some for me to have a Broadway musical, so I hope — we’re just hoping that’s going to happen.”
Jay Duplass, who plays Josh Pfefferman in the series, told Page Six that his ideal next role would be “something terrifying that I couldn’t possibly imagine.” He later added that he would be open to performing on Broadway after learning the theater ropes for the finale, saying, “I’m not a song and dance man. Well, I am now, accidentally arriving at a musical.”
Alexandra Billings would also like to be involved with any future “Transparent” projects in any capacity, telling us, “I would sweep the floors. I’m fine with like bringing people coffee!”
The casting may already be in the works as well.
It is unclear if “Jagged Little Pill” star Elizabeth Stanley will be in the new musical, but she did tell us that she worked with the team this past summer on “sort of a future version of ‘Transparent'” that’s “not for TV.”
“I probably couldn’t have predicted anything that happened in this whole journey of ‘Transparent’ the TV show or the musical. It all feels like a weird dream, frankly,” Jill said.
