Frances Bean Cobain curates ‘Kurt Was Here’ clothing line for NYC pop-up

Kurt Cobain may be gone, but his artwork lives on.

The late Nirvana frontman’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, recently curated and helped design a capsule collection of limited-edition clothing based on Cobain’s original artwork.

Dubbed “Kurt Was Here,” the collection consists of T-shirts and sweatshirts that “embody the artist in the most authentic way possible, with his unaltered artwork as the primary design element,” according to a press release.

A partnership between The End of Music, LLC (the business arm of Cobain’s estate) and Live Nation Merchandise, the line originally launched at Barneys, Selfridges and online at KurtCobainShop.com on September 9, with a portion of all online sales benefiting the Jed Foundation, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to protecting emotional health and preventing suicide for teens and young adults.

Now, five previously sold-out styles have been restocked at Shop Nation (Live Nation’s flagship boutique in NYC) at 430 W 15th St. in NYC while supplies last. Sketches featured on the pieces include skeletons, spiders and a self-portrait in which Cobain described his weight as “borderline anorexic,” and prices at the pop-up, which opened on Sept. 21, range from $113 for a T-shirt to $188 for a hoodie.

“We believe that the importance of art is exceedingly potent in today’s social and political climate and that it is the right time to share this collection of Kurt’s work with artists, collectors and fans, allowing them to experience Kurt’s legacy in a new way, and collectively celebrate his lasting impact on the world,” a representative from Live Nation Merchandise told Page Six Style.

“We hope people feel a resurgence of creativity, inspiration, and inclusivity from Kurt’s artwork and this collection. We hope this collection will remind others of Kurt’s powerful imagination and unite us in celebrating his talent in a new way.”
