Sharon Stone is suing rapper Chanel West Coast for “gratuitously” exploiting her fame with the song “Sharon Stoned.”
The “Basic Instinct” star filed a lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday while also seeking a “preliminary and permanent injunction” against the song and its video.
Stone, 61, accuses the 31-year-old rapper, real name Chelsea Chanel Dudley, of trying to ride the actress’ “extraordinary level of popularity and fame” to “enhance her stature as a rapper.”
“The Song gratuitously and repeatedly uses the name ‘Sharon Stone’ in its lyrics,” the lawsuit says, calculating that more of a quarter of the track “consists of nothing more than Defendant Dudley repeatedly saying the name ‘Sharon Stone’ in mantra-like repetition.”
“Defendant Dudley gratuitously repeats the name ‘Sharon Stone’ 33 times and the name ‘Sharon’ 99 times.
“The Video is also purposefully designed and shot to evoke Sharon Stone’s name, likeness, image, identity, and persona associated with her iconic movie roles,” the papers argue.
It also accuses the rapper of using the actress’ name “as a celebrity endorser to promote the sale of cannabis paraphernalia without her permission or consent.”
The lawsuit calls Stone an “internationally known film and television actress, celebrity, philanthropist, and pop culture icon” with “an extraordinary level of popularity and fame.”
It lists her numerous achievements — including “more than 1.6 million followers on Instagram, more than 118,000 Twitter followers, and more than 643,000 Likes on Facebook.”
It particularly notes her famed interrogation scene in “Basic Instinct” — in which she famously uncrosses her legs, mimicked in the rap video — as “one of the most iconic performances in contemporary film.”
“Sharon Stone maintains strict control over the manner in which her name, likeness, image, identity, and persona are used,” the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages awarded by trial.
A rep for Chanel West Coast claimed that Stone was a collaborator on the song.
