Kim Kardashian cried over memes making fun of 2013 Met Gala dress

Kim Kardashian-West took a look back at her best and worst fashion moments in a new video, recalling how the masses made fun of the floral print gown she wore to the 2013 Met Gala while pregnant with eldest daughter, North West.

“I was very pregnant, very puffy and bloated and I was like, ‘Oh God, of course the first time I go, I’m gonna be huge,’” she said in the video for Vogue. “Kanye [West] was performing so I wasn’t actually invited, I was just Kanye’s plus one. And that was OK with me because I never really dreamed I would be at the Met Ball. I know no one really probably wanted me there at the time.”

Former Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci — who also styled husband Kanye that night — designed the dress with Kim’s growing baby bump in mind, presenting her with both a black version and the floral gown she ended up choosing after a bit of prodding. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — who co-chairs the annual gala — was also pushing for the more colorful option.

“I could never really speak up at that point because I was so shy and just wanted to make everybody happy,” she recalled.

Upon her arrival to the red carpet, paparazzi photos were quickly turned to memes comparing the dress to couch material.

“I think Robin Williams even tweeted it, said I looked like Mrs. Doubtfire,” she said. “I was crying the whole way home because I just couldn’t believe it.”

Kim did find approval in twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who assured her the look was fab, despite the haters.

“I just remember the Olsen twins came up to me and loved my outfit and my gloves, so none of the critics mattered because the Olsen twins approved.”
