There was more to see at the Alice + Olivia sample sale VIP preview than just clothes. A couple got engaged at the event at 260 Sample Sale on Monday and even had a special surprise guest from the brand’s designer, Stacey Bendet.
We’re told the groom-to-be Jeff Heiser had called 260 ahead of time to get things ready for the big moment. His girlfriend Michelle Rothstein’s name was called over the loudspeaker to be brought upstairs to the employee area where he lead her onto rose petals in the shape of a heart and got down on one knee to present her with a pear-cut diamond ring.
But why a sample sale? Rothstein tells us, “I love 260 Sample Sale and go all the time and Alice + Olivia is my favorite brand so it was a perfect surprise spot.” Adding, “It was a complete surprise! I dressed horrible for work that day, but luckily got to change into some amazing clothes.”
Rothstein got one more surprise. We hear Alice + Olivia designer Bendet had caught wind of the plans and showed up to present the bride with her something blue, a chiffon sequin dress. Bendet’s pal, actress Jenny Mollen, helped by surprising the couple with champagne and a cake. And to top things off, Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth, who happened to be shopping the preview, took pics with the happy couple.
