Courtney Love and Frances Bean remember Kurt Cobain on his birthday

It’s been nearly 26 years since Kurt Cobain died, but his legacy hasn’t dimmed.

Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain, the widow and daughter of the Nirvana frontman, continue to keep his memory alive, both posting tributes to Cobain on Thursday — what would have been his 53rd birthday.

Love, who was married to Cobain from 1992 until his death in April 1994, posted a stark black-and-white portrait of Cobain with a guitar to Instagram, while their daughter — who at 27, is now as old as Cobain was when he died — shared her own photo on her Instagram Story of him holding her as a child.

Love, 54, and Frances Bean have had a somewhat fraught relationship since Cobain’s death: Bean once suggested that Twitter should ban her outspoken mother after Love claimed that Dave Grohl had hit on her, though the pair are apparently on more solid ground now.

“When my mom is on a right and healthy path, she is one of the most fulfilling, beautiful, intelligent and kind people I ever met,” Frances said on an episode of RuPaul’s “What’s the Tee?” Podcast in February 2019. “The thing with somebody who is as smart as she is is that she doesn’t know how to sit with herself. Because she’s so deeply empathetic and so intelligent that when she has to just sit inside her skin, she doesn’t know how to handle that. So she’s highly self-destructive because she doesn’t know what to do with all that information and feeling.”

Frances added, “She’s a really good person. This is what I like to call the era of balance, and I hope that we’re bringing in the era of balance.”
