Broadway actor Brian Stokes Mitchell has coronavirus

Brian Stokes Mitchell has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 62-year-old Broadway star announced his diagnosis on Wednesday night with a video posted to Twitter, reassuring fans that he was already on the upswing.

“Hey friends, family and Stokes folks, I hope you all are well. I’ve been laying low for the last number of days because I could feel my body fighting something unusual, and I just got confirmation that I have indeed tested positive for the coronavirus,” he said.

“The good news is, over the last few days I’ve isolated myself, I come to you from the bedroom,” Mitchell added.

The performer also thanked his wife Allyson Tucker and their son, Ellington, who are “100 percent asymptomatic and really helpful getting me through this.

“I love you guys so much, thank you for everything you’ve been doing for me.”

The Broadway star won a Tony for his lead performance in the 1999 revival of the Cole Porter classic “Kiss Me Kate.” He also garnered nominations for his turns in “Ragtime,” “Man of La Mancha,” “King Hedley II” and had a recurring role as Scott Knowles in the sci-fi TV series “Mr. Robot.”

Stokes described his recovery: “For the last number of days, three or four, every day that has passed has been better than the previous so I’m pretty sure I’m over the hump right now. I just want to let you know so you don’t worry about me. I’ll have updates for you as well.”

He ended the video by urging fans to “continue social distancing” and to “take care.”

Mitchell is the third Broadway star to test positive for COVID-19. Aaron Tveit and Laura Bell Bundy both revealed last week that they tested positive for the virus.
