Art Garfunkel is voicing the audiobook for the memoir of one of his closest friends — who lost his sight in their second year at college.
The famous ’60s warbler was pals with Sanford D. Greenberg at Columbia University when he lost his vision due to disease. Garfunkel helped him navigate his college years and is now reading Greenberg’s memoir “Hello Darkness, My Old Friend: How Daring Dreams and Unyielding Friendship Turned One Man’s Blindness Into an Extraordinary Vision for Life.”
It follows his time from Columbia to Harvard and Oxford through a White House fellowship and a career as an entrepreneur and innovator. The singer also wrote the introduction, and the book features a foreword by late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and an afterword by Margaret Atwood.
Garfunkel features in the book, and said in its press release: “I was so deeply touched to read Sanford’s treatment of me in this magnificent book. I blush to find myself within his dimension. My friend is my gold standard of decent.”
Greenberg added: “All those years ago Arthur Garfunkel read my textbooks aloud to me, helping me forge ahead in my darkest hours. Now he’s giving another gift by reading my story for everyone else to hear.”
