Tales of 1980s New York nightlife will help shape Dylan McDermott’s upcoming memoir.
The “American Horror Story” star revealed that he used to “disappear” in the city’s nightclubs in order to study strangers.
“There’s something about the smoke machine … when that goes off, and the music is loud, and you can disappear,” he told nightlife guru Legendary Damon, on the 100th episode of “Legendary Talks.” “I remember doing plays in New York and I would go to clubs afterward, and I wouldn’t even talk to anybody. I just wanted to step back, and take a birds-eye view of the world and study people.”
But after he became a TV star, “one of the drawbacks of fame is you can’t do that as much, and I hate that.”
McDermott also reminisced about his days hanging at hip haunts such as Danceteria, the Mudd Club and Hurrah.
He also worked at the famed Area in the ’80s.
On his show, Damon also dished with Harlem native Bevy Smith about her upcoming memoir, “Bevelations: Lessons from a Mutha, Auntie, Bestie.”
