Former executive fashion director at Hearst’s Elle magazine Kyle Anderson stepped into a social-media storm when he Instagrammed, “Stop firing employees because they are white, especially men.”
The message was posted over an image of a New York Times article that ran this weekend about Anna Wintour and Vogue’s missteps with race.
“All white guys I worked with lost their position in editorial over the past three years,” he wrote. “Every white man (only) in my office lost their jobs on the same day. My personal story is horrendous and caused severe trauma.” He also took offense to companies letting people go and “then saying how proud you are to get rid of them and how it’s the right time.”
The message was posted on Twitter by a commentator who sarcastically stated, “White men are so oppressed and the world is certainly not built for their success to the detriment of women and POC.” Anderson promptly responded, “F**k you asshole.”
According to his LinkedIn, Anderson worked for Elle from October 2017 to September 2018, and was previously at the mag from 2006 to 2011. He did not respond for comment.
