With just days to go before she helms Fox News’ election coverage, Martha MacCallum is preparing for an on-air marathon.
The longtime anchor, who hosts “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” is working out daily and sipping green juice while quarantining after recently coming into contact with someone with COVID-19.
She’s been recording from home in New Jersey, but will be in the studio on Election Day on Tuesday, she told Page Six.
“I run or workout every day,” she said. “I really need the fresh air and I like to feel that my body has had a good physical test. I also have a green smoothie with spinach and mint every morning — and election day is no different.
“The election could be a landslide or go on for a month, we really don’t know — but we’re prepared for both.”
MacCallum is the network’s lead political co-anchor alongside chief political anchor Bret Baier, hosting debates, town halls and election night coverage.
In the 2020 election cycle, she has co-moderated town halls with former 2020 Democratic presidential candidates Senator Bernie Sanders, Michael Bloomberg, Amy Klobuchar, and Julian Castro.
“There are interesting polls,” she said. “More than 60 percent of Americans say this is the most significant election of their time. It’s been quite a rollercoaster covering the past four years and it will be fascinating to watch the final stretch.”
MacCallum will be joined in the studio by Bret Baier, Chris Stirewalt and Brit Hume on election night, while Dana Perino, Karl Rove and Juan Williams will be filming nearby.
“I wish we could all be in the same room, but we’re spread out,” she said.
Amid the pandemic, Fox News chiefs are not taking any chances and have ordered a reduced workforce ahead of this crucial week with only critical employees allowed in the studio. There is also additional testing.
Of President Trump, she said: “He’s been at a frenetic pace, a couple of weeks ago he had COVID, so nobody can say he didn’t give this his all.”
She’s also been covering the Post’s Hunter Biden scoop.
“I think there are a lot of questions that have to be answered on this,” she said.
To ready herself for the big night, MacCallum said: “We do so much legwork and studying 12 to 18 months before the big night, we go into it very ready.
“We also get a handle on each state and whether they have an early count or they count ballots on the day, which becomes very relevant. North Carolina and Florida are fairly efficient, whereas Pennsylvania and Michigan don’t begin counting until Election Day and they have millions of votes stacked up.”
And MacCallum’s not worried about getting tired, saying: “It’s amazing – you sit down and plug in and you don’t think about getting up and leaving.
“The last time I covered the election I was so plugged in and so hyper-focused that the hours flew by.”
