An activist imposter was saving Adam Rapoport’s reputation by pretending to be the disgraced Bon Appétit editor and claiming to work with worthy food charities after “reflecting on my actions.”
Only catch is that the account — which featured Rapoport’s picture, and a bio with the hashtag #committedtochange — isn’t really him, a source close to the former food editor told us. The account, started Nov. 1, was deleted Thursday. It had included a statement that Rapoport is working with Farm to School and Harlem Grown with the intention to “learn, grow and rebuild.”
There was also a tweet with a picture of kids, that read: “humbled to be learning and working alongside the youth.” But a rep for nonprofit Farm to School confirmed, “We have no connection to him.” Another tweet asked followers to “continue to support the incredible work,” at Bon Appétit.
It’s so far unknown who the foodie fabulist was behind the fake tweets.
Rapoport resigned from Condé Nast in June when the mag faced accusations over how it treated its employees of color.
