Joan Jett: I blame Robert Plant for my (only) arrest

Joan Jett is a badass but she’s only been arrested once — and lays the blame squarely at Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant’s feet.

Jett, whose song “Fresh Start” appears on the compilation album Good Night Songs For Rebel Girls, out next week, told the Guardian about her closest brush with the law, noting: “[it was] in England, on the first Runaways tour, about to catch the ferry to France. I blame Robert Plant, because we once asked him what souvenirs we should get on the road; he said he took hotel room keys. In England, the keys were big, ornate, metal things. I had four. At customs, the guy said, ‘Hmm, sticky fingers, you’re under arrest’, and put me in a jail cell.”

Nonetheless, Jett looks back on those years with the Runaways fondly as her happiest time, saying: “I was still naive enough to think good things about the world and life and people, and I was having fun playing rock ’n’ roll around the world, living the dream.”
