‘The Crown’ star Emma Corrin talks playing Princess Diana in British GQ Hype

Emma Corrin isn’t much like Princess Diana.

“The Crown” star, 26, plays a young Diana in Season 4 of the Netflix show, portraying the royal between the ages of 16 and 28 — as she woos Prince Charles, marries him and becomes pregnant with Prince William and Prince Harry.

“She has no idea what she’s getting involved with,” Corrin told British GQ Hype for the magazine’s December cover story. “And it was more exciting to play that, because you are showing sides of somebody people don’t know.”

Corrin told the glossy that she prefers the early scenes, “when [Diana’s] fashion sense was awful,” to the later and more infamous moments of the late royal’s life.

Perhaps that’s because the actress bears little resemblance to Diana in real life. For the photoshoot, she was styled in decidedly anti-royal garb — including a sheer fishnet dress, Vans and Converse sneakers and a Saint Laurent latex bustier dress — and showed off her underarm hair.

As for the pressure of playing the People’s Princess? Corrin is curious to know the royal family’s reaction, but too nervous to ever approach them herself.

“I’d be interested to know what they think,” she said. “If I ever saw them at a party, I’d probably leave!”
