Selena Gomez quits Hillsong Church amid Carl Lentz’s cheating scandal

Selena Gomez is done with Hillsong Church.

The pop star, 28, has moved on from the celebrity-favored megachurch in the wake of a recent cheating scandal involving embattled pastor Carl Lentz, the Daily Mail reported Monday.

“Selena considers herself a Christian,” the Daily Mail reported, citing sources from Australia’s Daily Telegraph. “She says she has a close relationship with God, and she believes this is not how God wants us to operate, she’s disillusioned.”

Gomez, the former girlfriend of Lentz’s one-time BFF, Justin Bieber, is said to have “adored Carl” at one point in time, but “doesn’t want anything to do with Hillsong anymore.”

“At one stage she adored Carl…,” an insider said. “She, [Hillsong founder] Brian [Houston], his daughter Laura and Justin were a team, really close, she used to hang out with Brian’s daughter-in-law Esther, now she doesn’t want anything to do with Hillsong anymore.”

Gomez’s breakup with Bieber, 26, in 2018 is also said to have been an added factor. Bieber’s wife, Hailey Baldwin, has also unfollowed Lentz on Instagram.

In November, it was revealed Lentz had been fired from Hillsong over alleged “breaches of trust” and “moral failures.” Lentz confirmed he had cheated on his wife Laura.

“I was unfaithful in my marriage, the most important relationship in my life and held accountable for that,” Lentz posted to Instagram at the time.

“This failure is on me, and me alone and I take full responsibility for my actions. I now begin a journey of rebuilding trust with my wife, Laura and my children and taking real time to work on and heal my own life and seek out the help that I need,” he continued.

An NYC-based fashion designer, Ranin Karim, spoke of her alleged affair with Lentz in November.

In February, Lentz and his pastor pal, Rich Wilkerson Jr., “were partying their asses off” at a private post-Super Bowl party, with one attendee describing Lentz as a “womanizing manwhore,” Page Six exclusively revealed in November.

Earlier this month, a source confirmed to Page Six that Lentz is seeking treatment at an outpatient facility specializing in depression, anxiety, and pastoral burnout.

In recent days, Hillsong has been accused of exploitation and homophobia, according to a new report from Business Insider.
