‘Insecure’ star Jay Ellis let his beard get ‘crazy long’ in quarantine

Even “Insecure” star Jay Ellis has gotten lazy with his looks this year.

“I spent most of my time getting up at 5, 6, 7 in the morning getting a haircut every single day on set. So I was like, ‘Wow, this is freedom, not having to deal with my grooming,” the actor, 38, told Page Six Style during a promotional event for Grey Goose Vodka.

“My beard got crazy long, and then I trimmed it because people came on Zoom like, ‘Yo, bro,’” he continued. “I didn’t comb it, I didn’t brush it, I just let it go.”

Luckily, Ellis is now back on track, thanks to a little help from his mother.

“I’m not gonna lie, I went to the the beauty supply store in Inglewood with my mom,” he said. “They don’t have the stuff I need in Hollywood; I have to go to the hood.”

Ellis’ favorites include Mizani 25 Miracle Milk Leave-In Conditioner ($34) — “That’s a game changer, it gives you a little texture and makes your hair really soft,” he said — and SheaMoisture Curl & Style Milk ($9.97).

“My hair is mad long right now. I was actually thinking about cornrowing it,” he told us. “I can probably braid it by New Year’s.”

When it comes to skincare, Ellis relies on Kiehl’s Age Defender Moisturizer ($52) and HeTime face masks ($8), which are made to accommodate facial hair.

“That was my problem before, because masks weren’t made for people with beards. I probably do it every 10 days,” he said.

“Now I’m trimmed up, I got my beard oil game up, and I’ve been doing masks. I’m ready for post-COVID — just out here glowing.”
