Chris Rock used to turn down movie roles with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as “the wackest s–t I’ve ever heard,” but is now begging the former pro wrestler for work.
He reveals to Esquire magazine, “Here’s the sad thing: Years ago when I was famous and The Rock wasn’t, and they would say ‘Hey, you wanna do a movie with The Rock?’ I’m like ‘Are you f–king crazy? That’s the wackest s–t I’ve ever heard.’”
But, “Now the guy’s like the biggest action star in the world and I’m like ‘Hey, can I get two lines? Hey, Mr. Johnson, maybe I can be in ‘Fast and Furious.’ I can have a wrench! I don’t even need a car. Maybe I change tires …’ I’m begging the f–king Rock for a job.”
The comedian, 56, also recalled the last time he saw his “SNL” co-star and friend Chris Farley — who struggled with addiction before dying of a drug overdose in 1997 at age 33.
“I did a gig in Chicago,” he said. “We tried to hang out afterwards, but I don’t know if you’ve ever like really hung out with an addict towards the end. Anything that isn’t the drug is a chore … I remember I was at his apartment and he showed me his apartment and I leave, and I see him out the window, and I was like ‘Ah, that’s probably that last time I’m going to see him.’ Like, I knew. I knew.”
He also told the magazine as part of a video segment called “Explain This” that he’ll always love Adam Sandler because the comedy star “danced with my aunt Lillian at my wedding.”
For the mag’s new cover story, the star reveals he appeared in a Lil Nas X video for “Old Town Road” at his daughters’ urging.
“I have a focus group in my house,” the “Everybody Hates Chris” star said. “I definitely run things by them. My daughters are all about ‘You got to stay relevant.’ They want me to work with relevant people.”
