Tallulah Willis says she used to “resent” her resemblance to her movie-star father, Bruce Willis.
“I punished myself for not looking like my mom, after being told I was [my dad’s] twin since birth,” the 27-year-old model daughter of Demi Moore wrote on social media while discussing her battle with body dysmorphia. “I resented the resemblance as I believed wholly my ‘masculine’ face was the sole reason for my unlovability.”
Alongside photos of herself and older photos of her A-list mother, she added, “FALSE! I was/am inherently valuable and worthy, at any life stage, at any size, with any hairdo! (As are you).”
Moore responded with full support, “Beautifully realized/Beautifully expressed/Beautiful to witness.”
Willis — who recently announced her engagement to film director Dillon Buss — also discussed ways she helps herself when she’s “spiraling” into her body dysmorphia disorder. Her suggestions to others struggling included breaks from social media, going for a walk, taking a bath and to write down feelings “and then tear it up or burn it.”
This is not the first time Willis has opened up about the importance of caring for one’s own mental health.
In August 2020, the budding designer opened up about the many different ways fashion can be healing.
“Even if it was a cozy day, having that specific sweatpant or special slipper just elevated my mood ever so slightly,” Willis explained. “If I could bring myself to push past the desire to just ruminate in my pain and throw on a ‘look,’ I felt more protected going out in the world.”
