Britney Spears has ‘no idea’ if she’ll ever perform again

Even Britney Spears has “no idea” where her career stands.

Two and a half years into her “indefinite work hiatus,” the “Toxic” singer, 39, admitted that her future as a performer remains up in the air.

“Am I ready to take the stage again? Am I going to take the stage again? Will I ever take the stage again? I have no idea,” Spears told fans in an Instagram video on Thursday.

“I’m having fun right now. I’m [at] a transition in my life, and I’m enjoying myself, so that’s it.”

Elsewhere in the video, the Grammy winner answered several mundane questions about her shoe size and favorite business trip, which #FreeBritney activists insisted were not among the queries that they had sent in amid Spears’ ongoing conservatorship battle.

“Honey no. We didn’t ask these. We love you though,” one fan commented.

Another wrote, “Baby the ONLY question we ask you is IF YOU ARE OK.”

Spears took a step back from the spotlight in January 2019, saying in a statement at the time that she needed to take care of her father, Jamie Spears, after he underwent multiple surgeries for a ruptured colon.

The entertainer’s relationship with Jamie, 68, has since become fractured, with a source telling Page Six in March, “She hasn’t talked to her dad in over a year.”

Both Britney and Jamie have also confirmed that they are no longer in communication. She said through her lawyer in November 2020 that she “will not perform” with her dad in charge of her career, while Jamie told CNN in December that he and Britney had not been on “good terms” in months.

The Spears family’s drama stems from Britney’s conservatorship, which has greatly limited her freedom since it was put into place in 2008 after her public breakdown. Jamie had control over his daughter’s personal affairs and finances for years, but since his 2019 health scare, he has only overseen the latter with the help of a private firm, Bessemer Trust.

A source told Page Six in May that Britney, who has not released an album in nearly five years, wants Jamie removed from the case entirely. She is due to speak in court for the first time on June 23.
