Former “Bachelor” contestant Lauren Burnham has been hospitalized with mastitis one month after giving birth to twins.

Her husband, Arie Luyendyk Jr., shared an update on his Instagram Story on Thursday, revealing the mastitis, which is an inflammation of breast tissue that leads to infection, was “getting worse” despite her being on antibiotics.

“Hate this for her,” he wrote alongside a photo of the 29-year-old lying in a hospital bed.

Burnham received antibiotics through an IV and underwent scans to look for potential abscess, Luyendyk, 39, shared. He added that his wife would have to stay overnight for observation while he held down the fort at home.

“She’s been through a lot this week,” he captioned another video of Burnham sleeping in her hospital bed with a teary-eyed emoji.

The couple, who met on the ABC reality show in 2018, announced they were expecting twins last December, just months after Burnham revealed she had suffered a miscarriage in May 2020. They welcomed twins Senna and Lux in June.

Days after giving birth, Burnham was able to leave the hospital, but was unable to take her newborn daughter home with her. The two shared she was having trouble breathing and would need to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit for a week.

“Today is so bittersweet,” Burnham captioned a video of her newborns. “We get to leave the hospital…but little sis has to stay behind for now.” Senna was soon reunited with her family.

Burnham said having twins was “a whole new challenge,” before adding that she was “loving every minute w/ you, lux and senna.”

Luyendyk and Burnham met during his season of “The Bachelor” in 2018. During the Season 22 finale, Luyendyk broke off his engagement to his winner, Becca Kufrin, before proposing to runner-up Burnham on the “After the Final Rose” special.

The couple wed in Hawaii in 2019, the same year they welcomed their first daughter, Alessi, 2.
