Melissa Rivers is considering adopting a baby: ‘I am very close’

Melissa Rivers is heavily considering expanding her family.

In a new interview, the 53-year-old comedian shared she’s been “thinking about” adopting a child, but is torn because of her age.

“Well, I’ve been thinking about it for a very long time. I’ve been thinking about it for about six years now,” she told stand-up comedian Chanel Omari on the “Chanel in the City” podcast, “and you know, certain times it feels like the absolute right decision, and certain times it doesn’t feel like the right decision.”

Rivers — who has a 20-year-old son — said she’s “80 percent there” in deciding to adopt but noted she’s not taking the decision “lightly.”

“What really stops me is, you know, would it be fair for the child to have unfortunately, like now a little bit of an older parent, you know? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, because I’m certainly very active and you know, a goer, but it’s a lot to think about…”

The former “Fashion Police” co-host said the “huge responsibility” is something she “really” wants to do but wished she had her late mother, Joan Rivers, around to guide her.

“I wish I had listened to my mother, who wanted me to retrieve eggs while I was in my 30s,” Melissa recalled, “and I was like, ‘Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.’ And now I’m like, ‘F–k, I should have done it.’ You know, but, you know, so, so be it again. You know, I am very close to, yes. But there’s a few things that still keep me up at night.”

Melissa shares 20-year-old son Cooper with ex-husband John Endicott. The former couple married in 1998 before splitting in 2003.
