Meghan King opens up about wedding to Joe Biden’s nephew Cuffe Owens
Meghan King is officially a member of the Biden family.
The former “Real Housewives of Orange County” star tied the knot with Joe Biden’s nephew Cuffe Owens on Monday at the groom’s childhood home in Kennett Square, Penn.
“Our wedding was about two things for us,” King, 37, told Brides magazine in a piece published on Monday afternoon. “Our love for and commitment to each other, and our family—each of our families, and the new very large and very tight family that we were bonding together by getting married. That’s it.”
The bride appeared in exclusive images published by the magazine wearing an ivory blazer dress by Rasario, a veil from BHLDN, a Jonathan Simkhai camisole, and Dolce & Gabbana lace gloves.
“I bought thousands of dollars worth of dresses online — everything from traditional gowns to cocktail dresses off the rack. And, breaking from tradition, I tried all of them on for Cuffe to see,” King told Brides. “We both found ourselves getting caught up in expectations of tradition with the dress when I just decided to wear what felt most like ‘me.’”
She rounded out the look in “classic Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pump in my favorite color, blue.”
Meanwhile, the groom wore a classic navy suit by Ralph Lauren Purple Label with his long locks down. King said he told her he’d style “like any other day” for their big day and then gave her a kiss.
King also shared that she and Owens, 42, met on a dating app, “texted for a day or two,” and the whirlwind romance took off after just a few short weeks.
“[We] then spent five straight hours on the phone the first time we spoke,” she said. “By the time that call ended, Cuffe was booked and packed for a flight to St. Louis that took off in about eight hours. Within a week, we were back on the East Coast, meeting his family, and starting to plan our future together. We didn’t leave each other’s side for weeks.”
King said the pair decided to marry at Owens’ family home on Oct. 11, his parent’s wedding anniversary.
“We both knew exactly what we were going to do, where we were going to do it, and how we were going to do it,” she said. “It’s a beautiful thing to see eye-to-eye with each other as we do.”
Ahead of the nuptials, the White House confirmed to The Post that King, 37, and Owens, 42, would be getting married in “a small, family wedding” attended by the president and first lady Jill Biden.
Owens’ mother, Valerie Biden Owens, is the president’s younger sister and close advisor.
King told Brides how Valerie played a big role in her son’s wedding alongside Cuffe’s sisters, Missy and Casey.
“[They] handled those duties remarkably,” the “RHOC” alum said. “And Valerie’s best friend, Bernadette Buccini, was our secret weapon. Having it planned by and for our family, with our complete and total trust, probably couldn’t reflect more who we are as a couple.”
King previously shared with Page Six how her own family has political roots.
She revealed to us in a July 2019 profile that both her maternal and paternal grandfathers were congressmen in the Missouri House of Representatives.
King’s family was present for her wedding to Cuffe.
The “RHOC” star shared a picture on Sunday that featured her parents, Julie and Kevin King, and sister, Caitlin O’Toole King, all dressed up — presumably for a rehearsal dinner.
Her father walked her down the aisle, and her children with ex-husband, Jim Edmonds, were also part of her nuptials: her 4-year-old daughter, Aspen, and 3-year-old twins Hart and Hayes.
“We told the kids they could walk down the aisle with me if they wanted to and Aspen said she wanted ‘to throw flowers at me’ so it was decided she would be the flower girl!” King told Brides. “Aspen wore a sweet cotton flower girl dress from Feltman Brothers that matched the dresses worn by our young nieces as well.”
King has been married twice before, but this appears to be Cuffe’s first wedding.
When she was just 22, the reality star tied the knot with her University of Mississippi classmate Brad McDill.
“I was too young. I didn’t even know myself,” King previously told Page Six of her first failed marriage. “I wanted to be like my parents’ perfect marriage. I just thought I was going to have the same love story, because why not?”
The young couple were married from 2007 to 2011 and had no children together.
King then wed Edmonds, an MLB superstar, in 2014, and the couple was thrust into the spotlight when King got cast on “Housewives” in 2015.
However, they were then consumed by a series of cheating allegations, including a claim that Edmonds, 51, cheated when King was pregnant with their twins.
They split in 2019 and their divorce was finalized this May.
Following her and Edmonds’ separation, King briefly dated a businessman named Christian Schauf, but they split last November. She then revealed in January she was seeing her friend-turned-lover Will Roos.
It is unclear when the “Intimate Knowledge” podcaster met and began dating Cuffe; the couple just made their relationship Instagram official on Sept. 25.
King captioned a pic of the pair, “Trying my best to avoid any cheesy introductions like ‘my main squeeze’… so just meet my man. ❤️.”
The couple plans to honeymoon at Glacier National Park in Montana.
They said in a joint statement to Brides, “Don’t let anyone make it about anything other than your love for each other and the commitment you’re making to each other. And, do it on your terms. If you’re lucky enough to have two families that ‘get it’ like we do, you’ve got everything you need.”
